Compact 9HP Snare + Hi-hats Euorack module

Built in very compact 9HP Eurorack package module offers 808 snare drum as well as open and closed hi hats based on their original circuits engineered using modern SMD components.

Percussive trigger gate inputs

Each percussive sound has its own trigger and accent inputs as well as dedicated outputs. Circuits are designed to be triggered with 5V/10V gates. Gate inputs are conditioned for on-off signals of any length.

Optional accent inputs for gain control

Accent inputs are optional, they can be used with extra gates where accent gate-on generates stronger sound.  You can also patch 0 to 5V or -5V to 5V CV to gate inputs or full range volume control.

Accent circuits can be fine tuned with dedicated trimmers to adjust the range of gain control for use with gate or CV.

Pairing with out analog kick drum module

Kick and snare are fundamental percussive instruments that form the basis of most modern rhythms.

The kick provides the power and low end of the rhythm, playing on the main beats (like beats 1 and 3), while the snare provides a high-pitched, percussive sound, accentuating the backbeats (usually beats 2 and 4) to create contrast and define the rhythm’s structure.

Iconic analog snare drum sound in the module is generated using two T-Shape resonators tuned octave apart mixed with white noise shaped with fast decaying envelopes.

This analog synthesis technique results in unique, futuristic sound that defined early electro, techno, hip-hop and other genres.

Snare drum section gain potentiometer to control output volume, tune to adjust pitch and snappy potentiometer to control white noise mix.

808 hi-hats

Analog hi-hats are synthesized from a metallic noise generated using additive synthesis. Metallic noise consists of a sum of 6 analog square wave oscillators tuned to specific frequencies. This noise is  filtered shaped using voltage controlled amplifiers controlled by analog envelopes that are triggered by gate inputs.

Percussive synthesis

These unique, synthesized analog h-hat sounds are famous for being used extensively in electro and techno tracks with intricate hi-hat patterns, and have become a defining element of the modern electronic music soundscape.

Open vs closed hi-hat

Hi-hat circuit is designed to mute open hi-hat when closed hi-hat is triggered. Famous drum patterns often utilize the contrast between a tight, crisp closed hi-hat and a ringing, sustained open hi-hat, which can be used to add variation and rhythmic emphasis.

Overriding the metallic hi-hat noise

We have integrated an interesting modification in hi-hat circuit with noise input and output. Noise input allows overriding the metallic noise with a different noise sound, for example white noise or harsh analog FM tones generated using our voltage controlled oscillator.

Our Dual VCO

Analog outputs provides the output of raw metallic sound from the circuit to be used for custom percussive instruments or mixing it with a different noise source and patching it back in to noise input.

This allows patching a wide range of unique sounding hi-hats far beyond the classic 808 drum machine sound.

Module offers potentiometers to control the output gain of each separate hi-hat sound as well as dedicated decay parameters to adjust the length of open and closed hihat till it decays once triggered.

Quality components

Module is built using 260 quality electronic components: audio grade OpAmps, low noise transistors as well as high end capacitors including legendary WIMA German ones in critical positions where the sound ins generated.

All potentiometers are precision Alpha variety with rubber knobs for soft touch for easy grip and pleasant tactile feedback.
