Utility Eurorack module with 3 separate precision crossfaders, 3 channel mixer and true analog white noise output based on Johnson–Nyquist transistor noise scheme.

Crossfaders  can work as voltage or audio/CV attenuators or if nothing is patched to the input as 0 to 5V attenuators. 3 channel mixer offers adding/subtraction functions summed to soft clipping  output with overdrive.

Precision crossfaders / Attenuators

Crossfaders can be used for VCO wave mixing, precision CV/audio attenuation, converting bipolar CV or audio to 0 to 5V, stereo panning or as dry/wet mixers in effect signal chain. Crossfaders are optimized for modern 0Ω impedance.

Latest version of the module features integrated precision voltage regulator routed to second inputs of the 3 crossfaders. When nothing is patched to crossfader inputs they can be used as 0 to 5V attenuators.

When signal is patched to only second input of one of the crossfaders it works as linear gain attenuator.

3 channel mixer with soft clipping and overdrive

3 channel mixer in the module is designed to perform analog signal summing and subtraction with soft clipping. Subtraction allows converting low pass filters to high pass, balanced signal inputs, complex wave mixing etc.

Copy of mixer output signal can be fed to one of its inputs creating feedback based overdrive, together with soft clipping it can produce heavy analog distortion. When nothing is connected to channel 1 it is automatically wired to receive sound from mixer output for easy overdrive.

Other modules can be placed in the feedback loop to create different sound effects.

True analog white noise output

Module outputs true analog white noise based on Johnson–Nyquist transistor noise scheme. Unlike pseudo random noise generated by digital algorithms this noise is truly unpredictable.

White noise in this module is generated by amplifying thermal noise of the transistor. Thermal noise random at atomic level.

White noise source has many uses, it can be fed back to the module to be mixed with different wave forms or to other modules for more complex functions.

Usage with other Eurorack modules

Module can be used for many different functions at the same time since it has 5 independent utility functions.

Crossfaders can mix CV and audio between different wave forms, modulation sources as well as dry/wet effect control; for example dry and ring modulated VCO outputs.

As part of analog compressor

When combined with our envelope follower and our quad VCA module can be used to create analog compressor where one of the crossfader works as voltage attenuator to control the threshold CV and another mixes input with feedback from compressor/VCA output.

Analog white noise hihats

Paired with our gate to pulse converter, envelope follower and VCA module can be used to create analog hihat from gate input. Please not that these are the same modules as in compressor example above.

These 3 modules can do compression and hihat generation at the same time with crossfader, 3 channel mixer and VCAs still left for other functions.

Flexible ring modulator

If you have a spare linear VCA and two oscillators you can use this module to make a ring modulator:

  • Set first crossfader potentiometer to 50% then pass its output to VCA CV control.
  • Make 2 copies of sine wave from one oscillator. Connect one copy to VCA input and another copy to 3ch mixer second negative input.
  • Connect output from the VCA to 3ch mixer third positive input.
  • 3rd mixer channel has to have gain of 2, adjust second and third mixer potentiometers until mixer output sound cancels out.
  • Connect sine wave from second oscillator to crossfader A input.
  • You can use 1st 3ch mixer channel to overdrive the ring modulator.

This creates ring modulator where both sine waves are multiplied.

Complex analog voice

Led indicators

On the front module offers two leds, one indicating that mixer output signal sum had reached 5 volts, second one turns on when signal is overdriven.

All potentiometers are precision Alpha variety, module is made with high quality electronic components and audio grade OpAmps, features rubber knobs with soft touch for easy grip and tactile feedback.

Revision 2.0

Mixer channel output is routed to channel 1 when nothing is patched there to achieve overdrive without the need of external cables.

Revision 2.1

Improved mixer, integrated precision 5V voltage reference routed to all 3 crossfaders so they would work as voltage attenuators when nothing is patched to their second channels.
