Advanced Quad VCA Module 2.0 update

The Advanced Quad VCA Module has been upgraded to version 2.0, which brings significant improvements in signal-to-noise ratio and ring modulation/crossfading control.

Our Advanced Quad VCA Eurorack Module

The Advanced Quad VCA Module is compact 4-channel voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) designed specifically for Eurorack systems. It's built around a new generation of SSI2164 VCA ICs, which provide ultra-low noise and virtually no crosstalk between channels.

Advanced module features

With the ability to control audio and CV signal gain using analog voltages, the Advanced Quad VCA Module can be used in a variety of applications, from simple signal attenuation to complex audio processing.

In addition to its basic linear and exponential VCA functions this module offers a range of advanced features that make it an essential tool for any serious sound designer or musician.

Multiple voltage control options

Each VCA channel has positive VCA controls from voltages ranging 0 to 5V as well as bipolar controls from -5V to +5V and negative controls from analog compression.

Analog compression

Quad VCA module can be paired with an envelope follower to create a compressor that can even out signal levels and reduce dynamic range.

To achieve compression audio signal is patched to envelope follower as well as VCA input. Envelope follower creates CV corresponding to audio strength. This CV is then attenuated and patched to negative input of the VCA reducing signal gain when when it gets too loud.

When nothing is patched to VCA positive input it remains open and negative input can be used to subtract signal gain accordingly.

Ring modulation

Advanced Quad VCA Module features two ring modulator circuits and two voltage controlled crossfaders.

Ring modulators, or as they are scientifically known as four quadrant multipliers, allow multiplying two signals together, creating a wide range of unique tones and textures.

To use the ring modulation function, one signal is patched into the ring modulator input, while another signal is fed into a bipolar control voltage input. The resulting multiplied output signal can then be used in a variety of applications, from audio synthesis to sound effects processing

Voltage controlled crossfaders

The module also features two voltage-controlled crossfader circuits, which allow users to mix and blend two signals together using a single control voltage source. This can be particularly useful for creating smooth transitions between sounds or for generating complex textures.

Crossfaders are patched in a similar way as ring modulators but using two input singals instead - one is patched to normal input and the other to dedicated crossfader input. Analog mixing can be controlled to both positive and bipolar CV.

Bipolar -5V to +5V CV is especially useful as it allows fast two signal mixing controlled by audio source.

What's new in quad VCA Eurorack Module revision 2.0

Improved signal-to-noise ratio and CV zero volts balance control trimmers.

Carefully designed in dual 4-layer PCB layout

Module has been redesigned using 4-layer PCB layout, which provides improved shielding and decoupling of sensitive signals.

This upgrade results in significantly reduced noise levels and crosstalk between channels, making it easier for users to create complex and nuanced sounds without unwanted artifacts or intermodulation distortion.

Ring modulation/Crossfader trimmers for each channel

In addition to the improved PCB layout, the 2.0 version of the module includes trimmers that allow adjusting the balance of ring modulation and crossfading functions.

This makes sure that ring modulator and crossfaders produce silence precisely when CV is at 0 volts.

Built using high end components

The Advanced Quad VCA Module uses quality precision resistors and temperature stable capacitors as well as high-end voltage reference from Analog Devices.

This ensures accurate and reliable operation of the module's VCAs in complex audio processing applications.
